Hence the shape of the dock (Summer '08).

RAIN
Layers of clouds raced on and on
As morning crept grey and dreary,
Rain in pounding sheets, a heavy weight
Upon the cottage fell, and lashed,
The wind with shrieks and moans, this
Dawning eerie –
Once an emerald, a jewel of lucent clarity,
The pond a mirror of the cloud banks’
Dirty grey underbellies, writhed and twisted
In grotesque rarity, and slammed the beach
With mounds of pondweed jellies.
Trees creaked, as bent with pain from windy
Blasts, they caught the pounding rain and
Surging wind full force, then stiffened almost
As plaster casts when momentarily, the
Onslaught, a lull, its course.
Uncovered boats filled like tiny reservoirs, as
Relentless, the rain poured out a fury and stung
The cabin’s windows, shingles, doors with torture
Whose death was in no hurry.
Today the rain, yesterday the fog.
